St. Lawrence Valley Paddler's Awards

The 2024 SLVP Awards Ceremony was held at Sergi's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria in Canton on October 23.​

2024 Award Winners:

​

Most Improved is given to a paddler who has shown substantial improvement in technique over the paddling season. The 2024 award was given to SLVP member Kristen Eaton who began racing in 2023, participated in two SLVP sponsored races in 2024, and then paddled in the C-2 Stock division of the '90-Miler' with SLVP Director Will Siegfried.

Rookie of the Year is given to the paddler or paddlers that are new to racing and have participated in at least one SLVP sponsored race or other paddling event. The 2024 award was given to Erik and Jennifer Whittaker who participated in SLVP's Duathlons, Wednesday Scrambles and the Madrid Canoe Regatta.

 

Buzz Lightyear 'To Infinity and Beyond' is awarded to a SLVP member who has traveled the farthest to compete in a race during the year. This year's award goes to Kevin Berl. Kevin competed in the Texas Water Safari in a C-4 with Ed Wagner, Deb Brax and John Vermilyea. They finished in 26th place of 159 starters, paddling nonstop in 61 hours and 28 minutes!

Special Recognition: GRB Newman Designs 'Outstanding Contribution to the Sport of Paddling' - Gene and John Newman.
